FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention is meant for real time monitoring content of strontium-90 in liquids with sensitivity of at least 1 Bq/l, which can be used in nuclear industry - atomic power stations, spent nuclear fuel storage facilities, nuclear waste disposal sites. Yttrium-90 beta-radiation and background events from electrons of Compton scattering of gamma quanta in the analysed volume of liquid are simultaneously and independently measured using a scintillation method. The count rate of the yttrium-90 beta-radiation is determined as the difference between the said measurements. The amount of yttrium -90 is then determined and the amount of yttrium-90 is converted to amount of strontium-90.
EFFECT: real time determination of content of strontium-90 in liquids.
