SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a mechanism and a method designed for initialising a packet-based service session in a public mobile communication system, especially a service session meant for a group of users. In order to initialise a service even if user terminals are in disconnected state with respect to a packet switched mobile communication system domain, an initiating message is sent from one user terminal to other terminals in the group. The initiating message includes information on the starting packet-based service session and it can be a message which can be sent through a mobile communication system to a mobile terminal which is in disconnected state with respect to a packet-switched domain. In response to reception of the initiating message, other terminals switch into a state which enables reception of packets belonging to the packet-based service session. If necessary, this feature includes connection establishment between other terminals and the packet-switched domain.
