FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry and can be used to determine content of hydrogen sulphide in liquid sulphur. Liquid sulphur is degassed in two steps: at the first step free hydrogen sulphide is blown with an inert gas and then absorbed with a sodium hydroxide solution and at the second step hydrogen sulphide bonded into hydropolysulphides is decomposed by adding aluminium oxide in amount of 0.1-6 wt % to the liquid sulphur which is then degassed and the released hydrogen sulphide is absorbed with a sodium hydroxide solution. Absorption and determination of amount of hydrogen sulphide after the first and second steps is done separately. Aluminium oxide is used in form of granules with diametre of 2-4 mm in amount of 0.1-6 wt % or in form of crushed 0.1-0.3 mm particles in amount of 0.1-6 wt %. The inert gas used when bubbling dissolved sulphur is nitrogen, helium or argon.

EFFECT: method for separate determination of content of free hydrogen sulphide and hydropolysulphides in liquid sulphur is disclosed.
