FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: plane boundary of acoustic contact is created between the analysed and standard material. Ultrasonic oscillations are emitted towards the said boundary and reflected signals are received. Coefficient of reflection R1 of ultrasound from said boundary is measured, from which the value Zx1 of acoustic resistance of the analysed material is calculated. The acoustic field distribution characteristic in the direction parallel the acoustic contact boundary is then changed. The coefficient of reflection R2 of ultrasound from the said boundary is similarly measured. The corresponding value Zx2 of acoustic resistance of the analysed material is determined and compared to value Zx1 and non-uniformity of properties of the analysed material is determined from the comparison results.
EFFECT: more sensitive ultrasonic detection of non-uniformity of mechanical and physical-chemical properties on a small scale.
