FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to ultrasonic diagnostics, and can be used for pyopneumothorax diagnostics. Successive ultrasonic examination of chest in vertical position of patient by means of sector sensor with frequency 3.5 MHz is carried out. Longitudinal scanning of pleural cavity from X intercostal space is performed. Detected is heterogeneous inhomogeneous pleural effusion with diffusely distributed on anechogenic background multiple hyperechogenic signals. Above pleural effusion parietal hyperechogenic line without breathing motility and with multiple reverberations of repeated echo is detected and conclusion about pyopneumothorax is made in case if in pleural effusion present are multiple hyperechogenic coarse-grained or short linear signals with size up to 3-4 mm with limited motility during breathing and heart beat, corresponding to separate small air bubbles in purulent exudate, and located above it parietal hyperechogenic line without breathing motility and with multiple reverberations of repeated echo, corresponding to free air in pleural cavity.

EFFECT: method allows to detect signs of pyopneumothorax and visualise characteristic echostructure of pleural content in detail.
