DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUE FOR MESOTHELIOMA IN ANTERIOR COSTODIAPHRAGMATIC RECESS Russian patent published in 2015 - IPC A61B8/08 

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: pleural cavity and an anterior costodiaphragmatic recess from the involves side are scanned with ultrasound lengthwise. While scanned, a patient is standing; the scanning procedure is performed with using a sector or curved transducer at frequency 3.5-5.0 MHz. The scanning procedure first covers the costal pleura in the V-VIIth intercostal space throughout from a parasternal to anterior axillary line. Then, the transducer is placed under a costal arch and moved downwards along an anterior abdominal wall to scan the anterior costodiaphragmatic recess. If observing a thickening of the costal and/or diaphragmatic pleura covering the whole anterior costodiaphragmatic recess and extending in the caudal direction as an elongated oval mass growth above a liver or spleen, immovable in breathing, having a homogenous hypoechoic structure, mesothelioma is diagnosed.

EFFECT: technique provides the more accurate diagnosis of mesothelioma ensured by a possibility to examine the anterior costodiaphragmatic recess in details and detecting the diagnostic signs specific for mesothelioma.
