FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: modified carbon product comprises a carrier, an organic functional group with a cyclic fragment bonded to its surface, and metal group covalently bonded to the said functional group. The metal group is a source of metal selected from silver, copper, nickel, europium, iron, aluminium, rhodium, cobalt, ruthenium, magnesium, calcium and platinum. The carbon carrier may be soot, activated or packed carbon, carbon flakes, carbon fibre or carbon nanotubes. The following steps are carried out to obtain the modified carbon product: preparation of the carbon carrier, modification thereof with the functional group and bonding the metal group thereto. The bonding step may be carried out in a liquid medium, in vapour or gaseous phase.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain a wide range of materials which are better than existing ones.
