FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to functional diagnostics and can be used for higher quality of examination of low tension circulation of a lower extremity. In a prone patient, longitudinal scanning of the common femoral vein is conducted with a probe being place 1 cm above an entrance of the deep femoral vein. The probe is turned around. Transversal scanning of the common femoral vein follows. The S1 vein area is measured. Thereafter, the patient is positioned upright, and 1 min later, examination of the vein and measurement of the S2 area are performed again. An orthostatic dilatation index (ODI) is calculated by formula: ODI=((S2-S1)/S1)×100%. If the IOD is 50% and less, the lower extremity vein tonus is considered to be normal. The IOD exceeding 50% indicate the lowered vein tonus.

EFFECT: method allows for more accurate calculations ensured by the vein area specified as an estimation criterion, and also for more precise measurement due to the anatomic variability of the return level and angle of the entrance of the deep femoral vein being considered.
