FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: proposed ICE comprises variable compression ratio mechanism and valve timing mechanism. The former can vary mechanical compression ratio. The latter can separately control valve OPEN and CLOSE moments. With ICE running at low load, maximum compression ratio is set. This allows maximum expansion ratio of 20 and higher at ICE low-load operation. In low-load ICE operation, intake valve CLOSE moment displaces from intake TDC, while intake valve OPEN moment is kept at preset OPEN moment. Said preset OPEN moment is, in fact, intake TDC. Said preset OPEN moment is kept to avoid collision between valves and piston. There is no said collision when at least mechanical compression ratio is maximum.
EFFECT: preventing collision between intake valve and piston, higher thermal efficiency.
