SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of guaranteeing inter-terminal quality of service for calls over an IP multimedia subsystem. The method involves inserting a gateway for the home IP multimedia subsystem for management between the IP multimedia subsystem and at least one non-session initiating protocol (SIP) client. In the gateway of the home IP multimedia subsystem there is handover of SIP with a remote client from said non-SIP client. The gateway performs conversion between the type of media identified in a session description protocol (SDP) of one or more SIP messages, and quality of the type of service defined for the protocol used for quality of service management during a call phase between the non-SIP client and the residential gateway. Said call phase is created in accordance with the converted quality of service.
