FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: device has optically connected radiation polarisation analyser, a beam splitter, a phase modulator and electrically series-connected control voltage unit, measurement device and photodetector. The beam splitter is in form of two identical birefringent crystals turned about each other by an angle of 90°, and the plane in which their optical axes lie is turned about the principal axis of the polarisation analyser by an angle of 45°. The first and second outputs of the beam splitter are optically connected to first and second reflectors, respectively. The input of the phase modulator is optically connected to the output of the polarisation analyser, and the output is optically connected to the input of the beam splitter. The photodetector is optically connected to the second output of the polarisation analyser. The second output of the control voltage unit is electrically connected to input of the phase modulator. The axes of the induced anisotropy of the phase modulator are turned about the principal axis of the polarisation analyser by an angle of 45°.

EFFECT: more reliable and accurate measurement of linear displacement values, with simultaneous broadening of functionalities.
