SUBSTANCE: nondestructive method for rapid detection of zones on the surface of metal components with polishing or operational burn marks involves measuring fluctuation of a physical parametre on the surface of analysed components, the values of which are used to determine presence of burn marks in the measurement zone. The physical parametre used is electronic work function measured through a contact potential difference using a device for measuring electronic work function, having a fixed-frequency generator, a piezo-dynamic vibrator and a measuring electrode, placed with possibility of scanning the surface of the inspected object. Boundaries of zones where contact potential difference abruptly increases by more than 5 mV, which indicates presence of burn marks.
EFFECT: fast and accurate detection of dangerous zones with burn marks on components.
