FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: image of a test object is obtained using two optical or optoelectronic devices. The optical or optoelectronic devices have identical image receivers and one of them has an optical system with known focal distance. Front principal planes of both optical systems are superposed. The distance at which the test object lies is measured from the superposed front principal planes. On each received image of the test object, the size of its image is determined, after which the focal distance of the optical system is calculated using a formula given in the claim.

EFFECT: high reliability and accuracy of determining focal distance of optical systems of optical or optoelectronic devices.
