FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method comprises slag-forming material onto mould bottom and separate feed of heat-isolation material therein. Slag-forming material is arranged in polyethylene container. Slag-forming material feed is performed prior to liquid metal ingress into the mould. First portion of heat-isolation material is fed onto polyethylene package, in 3-15 s after ingress of liquid metal into the mould. Second portion is fed onto slag layer, or on heat-isolation material layer left on liquid slag surface, after lifting said material onto mould dozzle top. Amount of heat isolation material fed in first portion is determined by formula M=ρ(L2·D), where: M is amount of heat-isolation material, kg; ρ is bulk weight of heat isolation material, kg/m3; L is mould parametre, that is, length of rib of the mould inner wall - adjoining the bottom taper, m; D=(0.01-0.03) is factor of length dimensionality. The thickness of the second part of heat - isolation material is 40-130 mm.
EFFECT: reduced surface and macrostructure defects.
