FIELD: measurement equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention may be used in systems of control and emergency protection of process equipment. Differential manometer (1) is connected to section of process pipeline via valves (3,4) installed on it by means of connecting pipelines (2), and pressure difference between cavities of manometer is used to identify direction and value of flow. Conductance of pipelines (2) and distance between points of their connection to process pipeline are selected provided that a static pressure difference is created between cavities of differential manometer, which is higher than its reference value, if flow of dangerous value appears in prohibited direction. Device to realise method may additionally be equipped with pipelines having two valves (5,6), accordingly to correct "zero" of manometer (1) and to do vacuum works, and also with buffer volumes (7,8). To increase pressure difference, process pipeline has a narrowing (9) between points of device connection.
EFFECT: invention provides for sensitivity sufficient for reliable protection of process objects against generation of emergency flows without violation of equipment operation mode.
