FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nonwoven filtration materials. Proposed linen comprises bimodal (mass fraction/size) mix of continuous interwoven microfibers and larger fibers of identical polymer composition. Note here that amount of microfibers exceeds that of larger fibers by, at least, five times. Note also that fibers mass fraction-to-size bar graph features the mode of larger fibers exceeding 10 mcm. Said linen can be produced by passing fiber-making material through die chamber with larger and smaller orifices to produce threads, thinning said threads into fibers and collecting thinned fibers to make said nonwoven linen.
EFFECT: linen for producing self-supporting 3-D articles, say, cup-shaped respirators and corrugated air filters.
