FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to water treatment. Floating cone-shaped electrodes are immersed into water by their tip at a depth of up to 0.5 mm with area of electrical contact with the water surface of up to 1 mm2 and then connected to an electronic device. The electrodes are made from inert metal and one of them is a shield which protects the other from aeration air bubbles. After the onset of crystallisation of heavy water in the temperature range of +2°C - 0°C, dc and ic measurement voltage pulses with duration of up to 2 s and period between pulses of 30-200 s are successively transmitted. When a dc voltage pulse is transmitted, the change in electroconductivity of the inter-electrode space is measured. When ic voltage pulses are transmitted, the presence of semiconductor properties of ice on the electrode is detected. Before measurement, the water aeration process is stopped completely or on the area where the electrodes are located.
EFFECT: invention lowers the impact of measurement currents of heavy water crystallisation sensors on the treated water, increases accuracy of determining crystallisation of heavy water, increases life of the electrodes.
