FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: apparatus has an optical head housing inside of which there is a focusing lens unit, a mechanism for measuring geometry of the laser beam and a nozzle for the optical head. The focusing lens unit has a housing with a focusing lens inside. The mechanism for measuring the geometry of the laser beam has a control device and is in form of a "pile" of separate annular piezoelectric elements with sputtered electrodes. The control device is in form of a driving generator of rectangular pulses and an electric signal amplifier. The set of piezoelectric elements is movable and is coaxial with the axis of the optical head and its housing and is joined to the butt end of the housing of the focusing lens. The housing of the focusing lens is mounted on a flexible rubber lining inside the housing of the optical head. The "pile" of the focusing lens unit and the rubber lining are pressed to the bottom of a cylindrical groove by a threaded ring. The electric signal amplifier is connected to the electrodes.
EFFECT: simple design and easily controlled focusing optical head for a laser cutting apparatus with a fibre laser, which provides quality cutting of thick-walled objects with thickness of up to 20 mm in automatic mode.
