FIELD: laser material processing system.
SUBSTANCE: laser material processing system and a method for controlling a laser welding process. Invention can be used for material processing, where a laser or other energy beam is wobbled or oscillated during processing, including additive manufacturing, marking and material removal. At least one processing beam during the welding process moves according to the wobble pattern on the workpiece area to be processed. An integrated coherent imaging (ICI) system moves the imaging beam at least partially independent of the processing beam to one or more measurement points on the wobble pattern and obtains ICI measurements (e.g., depth measurements) at those points. The ICI measurement result(s) can be used, for example, to evaluate the keyhole and/or molten pool characteristics during the welding process.
EFFECT: improving the stability of the welding process of various materials and improving the quality of welding by reducing spatter and porosity and controlling the geometry of the weld.
