FIELD: power industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for manufacture of fuel elements and fuel assemblies for research reactors with nuclear fuel of low (less than 20%) benefication. Fuel element is made in the form of thin-wall tubular cover sealed on edges. Cover is made from zirconium alloy and has the shape of four-beam star in cross section, the rounded projections of which form spirally wound spacer ribs. Fuel core in the form of cylindrical pin made from uranium alloy and 1.5-9 wt % of molybdenum is arranged in the cover centre; coating which is made of zirconium or zirconium nitride alloys can be applied to the core surface. Contact material in the form of aluminium powder in silumin matrix is arranged between cover and pin.
EFFECT: design of fuel element, which allows in wide range changing the uranium capacity of fuel element at maintaining high properties of its reliability and safety.
