FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: procedure for thermal treatment of rails consists in simultaneous induction heating railhead and rail foot. Railhead induction heating is carried out to temperature 500-700°C, while rail foot induction heating is led to temperature 150-350°C and rate of rail transfer 1.2-3.5 m/min. Rail head induction heating is performed at current strength 80-140 A and voltage 250-400 V in inductor. Rail foot induction heating is performed at current strength 50-100 A and voltage 100-250 V in inductor.
EFFECT: reduced hardness of metal in surface layer of rail and elimination of thermal stresses and deformation of rail.
