FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: testing a circular plate-like specimen for fatigue strength by using loading liquid or gaseous medium on the specimen, where the liquid or medium is fed under pressure through a nozzle in form of a pressure jet aimed at the central part of the specimen. A slot-type gap linked to the atmosphere is placed between the nozzle and the plate-like specimen. The selected pressure value of the loading medium is such that a detachable or non-detachable mode flow mode of the pressure jet of the loading medium arises in the slot-type gap, which coincides on frequency with the frequency of the characteristic elastic oscillations of the plate-like specimen. The specimen undergoes flexural axisymmetric deformation in its self-oscillation mode. Fatigue strength of the specimen is evaluated from the total number of cycles of flexural deformation at which fatigue cracks form in the material of the specimen. The apparatus for realising the method has a base on whose perimetre the plate-like specimen is attached, as well as a nozzle mounted in the central part of the base and linked to the pressure pipe for feeding the loading medium under pressure into the slot-type gap. On the side of the specimen, there are tensometres for measuring mechanical stress arising on the surface of the specimen, as well as for recording the moment fatigue cracks form at tensile strength of the material of the sample.
EFFECT: fast process of conducting test and simple design of the device for carrying out tests.
