SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a method and apparatus for calculating and filtering a disparity map based on stereo images. The initial stereo pair of images or video frames is transformed from the RGB colour space to the LAB colour space; the initial disparity map is calculated; the disparity map is calculated via successive disparity map filtering iterations; the degree of filtration of disparity is calculated according to the iteration; the size of the nucleus of the disparity filter is calculated according to the iteration; the disparity gradient is calculated; disparity is filtered in accordance with the degree of filtration of the disparity, the calculated size of the nucleus of the filter and the calculated disparity gradient; the convergence criteria is checked, and if said criteria are met, filtration is stopped; the disparity map is corrected.
EFFECT: high quality of the calculated disparity map without distortions, where the quality of the obtained disparity map must be suitable for generating virtual aspects.
