SUBSTANCE: procedures are described for paging subscriber devices (UE) in a wireless communication system. In one aspect a cell sends a paging indicator to UE, tracks confirmation of reception from UE and sends a paging message to UE, if the reception confirmation was received from UE. The cell may receive information of channel quality from UE and may send a paging message with the help of adaptation of a communication line and/or HARQ in order to increase efficiency. In another aspect a cell sends a paging indicator along a jointly used control channel to UE and sends a paging message along a jointly used data channel to UE. The paging indicator and the paging message may be sent from several cells into UE. Alternatively, the paging indicator may be sent from several cells into UE, and the paging message may be sent from one cell into UE.
