SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry and a method of producing micro- and/or nanometric magnesium hydroxide, including magnesium hydroxide with a modified surface. In an aqueous medium of magnesium chloride with sodium hydroxide or chloride, or potassium hydroxide or chloride, or calcium hydroxide or chloride, or ammonium hydroxide or chloride, reaction is carried out in a single step at temperature 10-200°C and atmospheric or autogenic pressure, or in two steps: at the first step at temperature 10-100°C and atmospheric pressure, and at the second step - at temperature 101-200°C at autogenic pressure with possible modification and subsequent extraction of magnesium hydroxide.

EFFECT: invention enables to obtain magnesium hydroxide with predicted specific surface area and particle size and magnesium hydroxide agglomerates.
