FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to neonatology, and can be used for treating respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in newborns supported with artificial pulmonary ventilation (APV). That is ensured by cerebral oxygen saturation in the APV-supported newborn by transcranial cerebral oximetry. If the cerebral oxygen saturation reaches an upper border of an age norm - 81 % on the left, 85 % on the right and higher, the oxygen concentration in an inhaled mixture is reduced to 21 %. If the cerebral oxygen saturation is less than 77 % on the left and 81 % on the right, the oxygen concentration in the inhaled mixture is increased to the age norm of the cerebral oxygen saturation.
EFFECT: method allows considerably reducing death rate caused by developing RDS in the APV-supported newborns due to lower frequency of developing oxidative stress ensured by optimal oxygen dosing in the inhaled mix depending on a degree of the cerebral oxygen saturation.
