FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to purification and disinfection of water. The method of disinfecting water involves feeding water under pressure of not less than 0.01 MPa and cavitation which is carried out in a device having a housing which has a cavity with an inlet and outlet for liquid, a rotor in form of a disc inside the housing, which has in the plane of rotation openings, protrusions and depressions, which is rotated by an external force, and a fixed working surface having protrusions and depressions lying in a plane perpendicular the axis of rotation of the rotor, which are superposed with protrusions and depressions on the rotor, wherein the gap between the superposed surfaces is between 0.4 and 4 mm, and water pressure at the outlet of the device is not less than 0.015 MPa. The method does not require use of reagents, special safety measures, buildings and structures, ensures quality disinfection of water, which meets sanitary standards on microbiological indicators.

EFFECT: low capital and operational expenses, high personnel safety and quality disinfection of water.
