FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to treat river, rain and waste water from manufacturing plants. The coagulation and settling method for treating water involves a micro-flocculation step on which preliminary micro-flocculation of finely dispersed particles suspended in the water to be treated is carried out, as well as a flocculation step for agglomeration of micro-flocculi and a settling step for separating flocculi. The final flocculation step involves use of flocculent slanting plates with spacing between 5 mm and 50 mm. The method employs an amount of inorganic coagulant which is such that turbidity of the treated water after passing through the slanting plates is equal to or less than 4/5 of the turbidity before passing through the slanting plates.
EFFECT: method enables use of a smaller amount of inorganic coagulant than when using conventional technology, and also lowers the amount of the precipitate formed; the remaining micro-flocculi have high density and smaller size, which enables to obtain pure water of higher quality.
