METHOD OF SCANNING CAROTID ARTERIES Russian patent published in 2011 - IPC A61B5/00

Abstract RU 2425623 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to spiral computer angiography, and is intended for scanning of carotid arteries. In right cubital vein installed is catheter with diameter G18. Introduced are contrast substance and then physiological solution at rate 5-6 ml/sec. Volume of contrast substance is calculated by formula V=(t+10 sec) "Ч"υ, where V is volume of contrast substance, t is scanning time, υ is rate of contrast substance introduction, 10 sec is maximal time of trigger bolus for scanning start. Volume of physiological solution constitutes 1/2 V of contrast substance. Zone of scanning is set from level of orbital-myotal line of scull to trachea bifurcation. Scanning is performed in cranio-caudal direction. Trigger ROI is set on ascending aorta. Scanning parameters: section thickness 0.5 mm, pitch factor 0.7.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to obtain clear visualisation of carotid arteries along entire length, from proximal to distal parts, and eliminate appearance of artifacts from brachiocephalic and internal jugular veins.
