SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of 2,3,5,6-tetrabromo-4-nitrophenol, involving oxidative nitrosodebromation of pentabromophenol with sodium nitrite in glacial acetic acid at 20-25°C and molar ratio pentabromophenol: sodium nitrite: glacial acetic acid equal to 1:10:1250.
EFFECT: method simplifies synthesis of 2,3,5,6-tetrabromo-4-nitrophenol by reducing the number of steps, which results in higher output of the end product.
