SUBSTANCE: invention discloses methods of transmitting a buffer status report from a wireless device to a base station and a wireless device for communicating with the base station. The wireless device has a buffer for storing uncompressed data and a transmitter for transmitting a buffer status report to the base station. The buffer status report contains information on the volume of uncompressed data which must be transmitted from the wireless device, wherein the said information depends on the volume of uncompressed data stored in the buffer.
EFFECT: possibility of calculating volume of data stored in the buffer of a wireless device.
