FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: described is a method of converting plant biomass into fuel or ethanol, comprising the following steps: a) activating biomass in order to make it more susceptible to conversion by adding inorganic or organic material with catalytic properties to the biomass; b) optionally adding a solvent; c) partial conversion of the activated biomass in order to form a mixture of solubilised material and unconverted biomass, where the solubilised is converted during the process and unconverted biomass is unconverted during the process; d) separating the unconverted biomass and the solubilised material; e) converting the unconverted biomass.
EFFECT: milder conditions for the method, method is more cost-efficient and requires simple and cheap equipment.
