FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: procedure red mud processing consists in melting red mud with reducer and in extraction of associated metal. Also, mixture of red mud with bauxite is subjected to reduction smelting. Molar ratio of CaO to SiO₂ in it does not exceed 1.2-1.4. Lime and soda are added into produced unloaded aluminous melt of slug out-of-furnace at cooling; melt is brought to concentration facilitating formation of calcium ortho-silicate 2CaO·SiO₂, calcium ortho-ferrite 2CaO·Fe₂O₃, calcium titanate CaO·TiO₂ and sodium aluminate Na₂O·Al₂O₃ and is treated with water vapour.

EFFECT: extraction of sodium oxide from red mud, production of pig iron in furnace and alumo-calcium slag out-of-furnace; utilisation of low quality aluminous raw material; raised efficiency of furnace and reduced power and heat outputs.
