FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: there is performed vacuum-plasma application of multi-layer coating. There is initially applied a lower layer of nitride or carbonitride of titanium and aluminium compound at their ratio wt %: titanium 91.5-94.5, aluminium 5.5-8.5. Further, there is applied an intermediate layer of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium, aluminium and silicon at their ratio wt %: titanium 93.7-94.9, aluminium 4.0-6.0, silicon 1.1-1.3 and the upper layer - of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium, aluminium and silicon at their ratio wt %: titanium 87.7-91.9, aluminium 7.0-11.0, silicon 1.1-1.3. Coating is applied in layers with three cathodes positioned horizontally in one plane with three cathodes. The first and second cathodes are complex of titanium and aluminium and they are arranged opposite to each other, while the third one is complex of titanium and silicon and it is located between them. Also, the lower layer is applied with the first and the second cathode, the intermediate layer is applied with the first and the third cathode, and the upper layer - with the second and the third cathodes.
EFFECT: raised functionality of cutting tool.
