FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of producing 5-bromomethyl furfural (5-BMF) via dehydration-bromination of fructose in a two-phase system in the presence of a metal bromide and sulphuric acid as a catalyst and toluene as an extraction agent, at normal pressure. The process is characterised by use of potassium bromide as the metal bromide, conducting the process at high temperature and gradual addition of sulphuric acid during the entire process.
EFFECT: shorter duration of the process and less expenses on producing 5-BMF.
