FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: method is realised by designing a device and a method for recognising facial prominence, wherein the method involves the following steps: forming two images of an object, where one of the images is formed with the backlight on and the other with the backlight off; regions containing faces are determined on each of the two images; detected regions are compared; changes in intensity of the compared regions are analysed; a decision is made on the prominence of the face on the images.

EFFECT: design of a method and device for recognising facial prominence at a low cost and high speed of operation owing to detection of cases for presenting facial photographs without using expensive stereo or 3D cameras, without applying stereo reconstruction algorithms, which are mostly computationally costly.
