FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of recognising prominence of a facial image involves forming two images of an object with and without illumination; on each of the two images of the object, determining coordinates of regions containing the face; according to said coordinates, cutting regions of the original images of the object and determining coordinates of matching characteristic points, analysing changes in intensity of matching regions and, based thereon, making a decision on facial prominence; further generating a sequence of "actions", ones and zeros; generating a range of images of the object according to the generated sequence of "actions"; for the number "1" in the sequence, forming an image with illumination on; for "0", forming an image with illumination off; selecting a region containing eyes on each image of the object, and determining coordinates thereof; performing analysis of brightness of regions of the object and making a decision on presence of reflection of incident light on the eye cornea, and then generating a "control" sequence which is equal to a set of decisions on the presence of reflection of incident light on the surface of the eye cornea; comparing the "actions" and "control" sequences and making a decision on recognition of facial prominence.
EFFECT: high reliability of recognising facial prominence.
