FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for optical determination of position and orientation of a certain object using an optical device having at least one parallelogram rigidly joined to said object. Said optical device includes optical apparatus and electronic apparatus for analysis which enable to determine coordinates of four vertices of the parallelogram A'B'C'D' in an orthonormalised coordinate system with the centre at point O, denoted by Ro (O, , , ). The principle of operation of that device lies in determining the vertices of the parallelogram A'B'C'D' based on the knowledge of characteristics of the parallelogram and four known points of a quadrilateral ABCD. That quadrilateral is a figure obtained from the projection of the parallelogram A'B'C'D' onto a known image plane. Characteristics of the parallelogram A'B'C'D' can be, for example, its height, its width and coordinates of one of its points in said coordinate system Ro.
