SUBSTANCE: user equipment (UE) can send data for control information in a resource block with frequency division multiplexing (FDM) and can send a pilot signal in the resource block with frequency-domain code division multiplexing (CDM). The UE can determine several groups of subcarriers to use when sending data in several symbol periods of the resource block based on a predetermined pattern or a pseudo-random hopping pattern. Each group can include consecutive subcarriers to support localised FDM. Several groups may include different subcarriers to provide frequency diversity and possibly interference averaging. The UE can send modulation symbols for data (e.g., in the time domain) on several groups of subcarriers in the several symbol periods. The UE can send a reference signal sequence for a pilot signal on several subcarriers in each symbol period for the pilot signal.
EFFECT: high efficiency of transmitting ACK and CQI information.
