FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of sheet glass manufacturing from hollow glass cylinders. In a hollow glass cylinder a through longitudinal slot is arranged along its whole length. Prior to heating of the hollow glass cylinder with a through longitudinal slot, the first and second edges of the slot of the hollow glass cylinder are entered into the first and second slot-like longitudinal slots of mandrels. Then the hollow glass cylinder together with the rigidly fixed second mandrel is freely suspended on the first mandrel. Afterwards the hollow glass cylinder is heated with mandrels to plastic condition of glass, until as a result of deformation of the hollow glass cylinder between the slots of the first and second mandrels a vertical flat section of glass is formed. Heating is stopped, glass is cooled down to solid state, and a flat section of glass is cut from it. The value of the weight of the second mandrel Pm is selected on the basis of the condition: Pc<Pm<Pcrit, where Pc - value of hollow glass cylinder weight; Pcrit - critical value of the second mandrel weight, when the hollow glass cylinder is damaged at the solid state of glass.

EFFECT: increased transparency of sheet glass, and also possibility to produce sheet glass with thickness close to thickness of glass of initial hollow glass cylinder and good flatness.
