FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: power is controlled after an access grant is received in response to an access probe until the mobile device switches into a steady state. Reference power can be continuously monitored and a power amplifier setting can be modified only when the reference power changes. Digital gain of a return data channel can be adjusted relative the reference power level.

EFFECT: controlling power level for an access terminal in a wireless communication system which uses two signals with modulation.
