FIELD: weapons and ammunition.

SUBSTANCE: method for determining initiating capability of shell consists in excitation of an explosive in initial charge, which is adjacent through attenuator to inert charge of explosive and screened from it, detonation wave, its transmission through attenuator for initiation of inert explosive charge and determination of parameters of initiating blast wave after attenuator. For determining critical parameters of initiating blast wave the excitation of detonation wave is performed for several times; at that, determination of critical parameters of initiating blast wave is performed at constant specified thickness of attenuator being the cover of inert explosive charge by decreasing the weight of initial charge to minimum. On the basis of average critical parameters of initiating blast wave there determined is value of critical initiation parameter. Investigated shell is used as initial explosive charge, current values of initiation parameters are determined for various inclination angles of axis of the investigated shell to attenuator surface, and initiating capabilities of shell are determined by comparing the current initiation values to critical ones. Device for the method's implementation is described as well.
