FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a carbon reference electrode in an electrolytic cell for production of aluminium, which may be used as a reference electrode for electrochemical research, production of potentiometric, polarisation, chronovoltamperometric and other dependences at different electrodes in melted fluorides at 700-1000°C, and also for measurement of stationary and corrosion potential of anode and cathode in a laboratory cell or an industrial electrolysis bath. The carbon reference electrode comprises a rod from a spectroscopically pure carbon, a carbon potential stripper connected to it, placed into a porous alundum jacket with formation of inner space between them, at the same time the electrode is arranged with the possibility of contact with gas medium from a mixture of CO and CO2 and is placed into a porous graphite jacket, inner space of the electrode is made as closed in volume, and there is a hole provided in the bottom of the alundum crucible. Besides, thickness of the alundum jacket makes 1.5-4mm, and its porosity is 0.5-3 vol.%.
EFFECT: invention provides for stability and repeatability of electrochemical potential, improved quality of reference electrode with simultaneous increase of service life, simplified design and maintenance of electrode operation.
