FIELD: instrument making.

SUBSTANCE: image generation facility (8) captures a colour image of saw timber (9). An image processing facility (1) receives a colour distribution of a colour image captured by the image generation facility (8), compares histograms of brightness of the produced colour distribution with the predetermined histogram of brightness of the colour distribution of normal saw timber. It evaluates the received colour distribution as abnormal, when it deviates from the colour distribution of normal saw timber by a preset value or more, and detects a defect of saw timber having abnormal colour distribution deviating by the value that exceeds the preset value.

EFFECT: improved accuracy of evaluation.
