FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed method enables to eliminate the effect of diffusion of helium molecules through the sealing of a plug by pumping helium molecules from the annular cavity of the vacuum barrier. To this end, an airtight article is put into a test chamber which is evacuated. The article is then filled with helium. Air is pumped from the annular cavity until achieving a state of equilibrium with the test chamber. Measurements are taken using a leak detector. The time for onset of gas diffusion through the sealing of the plug is determined and helium molecules are removed from the annular cavity using a vacuum pump.
EFFECT: high quality of testing which increases reliability during operation.
