SUBSTANCE: method and units for providing adaptive segmentation on upper protocol level interacting with lower protocol level are suggested. Limit of adaptive segmentation determining threshold of the largest protocol data unit (PDU), which has to be delivered to lower protocol level is used on upper protocol level interacting with lower protocol level. For each service data unit (SDU) entering upper protocol level, it is determined whether corresponding SDU can be within segmentation limit or not. Each SDU which is out of segmentation limit is segmented into PDUs that are less than or equal to segmentation limit, while relative to SDUs that are within segmentation limit no segmentation is executed.
EFFECT: reduced overhead costs.
