SUBSTANCE: device for recognising a paper document recognises the type of the paper document in an input image by comparing the input image of the paper document with standard images of a plurality of paper documents. The device comprises a candidate selection module which selects a predetermined number of types of paper document candidates based on a density feature and direction features for each unit, obtained via even partitioning of the input image, and standard images; and a detailed evaluation module which adaptively partitions the input image into units according to features of the standard image, which corresponds to each type of paper documents selected by the candidate selection module, and performs detailed evaluation based on values of conformity between corresponding units of the partitioned input image and each of the standard images.

EFFECT: high accuracy, efficiency and high speed of recognising the type of a paper document.
