SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of processing a substrate, numbering unit for typographic numbering and numbering machine with use of it. The numbering unit for typographic numbering on sheet or roll printing presses numbers with p grades of k*n objects on sheets or rolls to create the possibility of a coherent collection of the said objects in the final and the gathering process of the layers of q sheets or rolls, cut into layers of q sheets. The numbering unit performs fully consistent action for grades from 1 to s, where 10S is less than or equal to q, with completely individually adjustable action for grades from s+1 to r, where the maximum number printed by grades from 1 to s and from s+1 to r, is less than or equal to k*n*q, and consistent action for grades from r+1 to p.
EFFECT: simplified collection of numbered objects to produce the piles of consecutively numbered objects, as well simplification of printing serial numbers in the given sequence.
