SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a compound which is capable of forming aldehyde- or ketone-type aromatic compounds which ensure prolonged release of an aroma. The compound has formula (I) X-CR₁R₂R₃, where R₁ denotes a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group having 6-16 carbon atoms, where said hydrocarbon group can have 0, 1 or more functional groups selected from OH and ether (-O-); R₂ denotes H or a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group having 6-16 carbon atoms, where said hydrocarbon group can have 0, 1 or more functional groups selected from OH and ether (-O-); R₃ denotes X or OH; X denotes part of a molecule of formula II:

or an ammonium or C₁-C₄ alkylammonium salt of part of a molecule formula II, where x equals 0 or 1; y equals 0 or 1; z equals 0 or 1; m is a number ranging from 2 to 10; n is a number ranging from 0 to 10; o is a number ranging from 0 to 10; R₄ denotes H or a C₁-C₄ alkyl group; R₅ denotes a C₆-C₂₂ alkyl or alkenyl group or, if n or o is equal to at least 1, a C₇-C₂₃ acyl group; R₆ denotes H or R₅; R₇ denotes a C₁-C₄ alkylene group. The invention also discloses a composition containing, in an aqueous solution, a mixture of at least two compounds of formula I; use of the compound of formula I to slow down release of the aldehyde- or ketone-type aromatic compound from fibre; use of the compound of formula I to increase stability of an aromatic substance for a fabric softener or hair conditioner; hair conditioner containing a compound of formula I; a fabric softener containing a compound of formula I; use of the compound of formula I to improve deposition a fragrance component on fibre; and a method of producing the compound of formula I, which involves reaction of a compound of formula X-H with a compound of formula R₁COR₂, where R₁, R₂ and X assume the same values as in the compound of formula I.

EFFECT: controlled and stable release of aldehyde- or ketone-type aromatic compounds from substrates on which a compound of formula I was deposited.
