FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to compositions which are suitable as fabric softeners, particularly for softening fabrics which have been washed with highly concentrated detergents. Said compositions are obtained via esterification of a C₆-C₂₂ fatty acids with triethanolamine which provides a mixture of esteramines which contains mono-esteramines, di-esteramines and tri-esteramines, and subsequent quaternisation of said mixture with alkylating agents, where molar ratio of alkylating agents to esteramines varies from 0.6 to 0.9, preferably from 0.65 to 0.85. The compositions contain non- quaternised mono-esteramines, non-quaternised di-esteramines, non-quaternised tri-esteramines, quaternised mono-esteramines, quaternised di-esteramines and quaternised tri-esteramines, wherein the weight ratio of non-quaternised tri-esteramines to quaternised tri-esteramines is higher than 1.5.

EFFECT: reduced white deposits on the fabric without reduction in softening.
